Jones Pass - Hunting for the stars.

I met up with about a dozen or so other photographers last night from the Southwest Denver Photo Team (an awesome group, totally free to everyone where people meet, shoot, and share ideas and experience...and drink da beers) for some astrophotography; trying to photograph the night sky.  We met up at a place far from where city lights would be polluting out sky called Jones Pass.  Started out kind of cloudy, but as soon as it got dark those stars came out as bright as I've ever seen them.

Started out the evening by photographing a nearby stream while I waited for the sun to go down.

And then the stars came out!

Then there was light paintings!

Ouzel Falls

Here is a little trip I took this weekend with my parents.  It was a hike to a (mostly) unknown spot in Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park called Ouzel Falls.

Static Electricity 2

Night 2 of shooting the thunderstorms that have been rolling though the area.  Didn't have any rain I was fighting with and it started to clear up at the end of the night so it made for enough time and ease to set up and get everything composed right.

Static Electricity

Here it is the middle of July and Colorado's monsoon season is finally here! This entire evening thunderstorm after thunderstorm rolled on through until finally I decided I was going to risk getting my camera soaked, and try and get some lightning shots!  I've never shot lightning, but I kind of get the jist of how to do it.  There were so many amazing strikes, but it was incredibly difficult to capture! Even using 30 second exposures it always seemed that the good flashes would always happen while my camera was processing the last image where I captured nothing. I hope we get a few more storms in the next few days because I would love to try again! Here are a few that I did manage to catch, and some that just turned out interesting.

Horsetooth Reservoir Photo Shoot

This place was by far my favorite childhood hangout spot.  I can remember countless summers spent up here climbing the cliffs and swimming down in the reservoir.  Armed with a couple of cameras, my buddy Matt and I set out photograph this incredible area. You can see why this was and still is my favorite spot to hang out!

This shot above was a total accident - I was moving my tripod from one place to another, and didn't realize that I had triggered the shutter for a 20 second exposure.  There are actually 2 spots where this 1 photo was taken. If you look close the apparent mist over the landscape is actually a closer view of the reservoir pictured in the distance in the 2nd image.  Oops!

And then, just like the good ol' days... playing with fire.
